As the papers summed up the year’s high points and critics reflected on their favourite theatre experiences, we were delighted and grateful to receive some lovely kudos. Here are highlights from some of the mentions we received, celebrating both of the Studio 180 productions of the 2011 calendar year…
We’re pleased to congratulate Debbie Wolgelerenter, who will receive two tickets to the April 20, 2012, performance of Clybourne Park and the party that follows – a special reception with music, food, drinks, outstanding raffle prizes and a chance to meet cast members!
Planning to see our production of Bruce Norris’s Pulitzer Prize–winning play, Clybourne Park? Have even more fun with us! Our “Block Party” event on APRIL 20, 2012, is a neighbourhood-themed party in support of Studio 180.
Studio 180 Theatre joins Tectonic Theater Project for Standing on Ceremony: The National Event, on November 7, 2011. Participating theatres all around the world will simultaneously present their own readings of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, a collection of short plays by some of America’s most illustrious playwrights, to raise awareness in support of marriage equality.
On Monday, October 3, we ran a contest on Facebook and Twitter, inviting fans and followers to answer the following question: “What was the name of the last play we produced at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre?”
Studio 180 invites you to join us for our newest community outreach activity: a pair of panel discussions inspired by The Normal Heart. Participate in a moderated dialogue about current and local HIV/AIDS issues and meet some of Toronto’s leaders in community organizing, service and advocacy.
On Monday evenings in October–December, the Toronto Public Library is hosting their On Stage Performing Arts Theatre Series – a program of six free lectures on current Toronto theatre that lets you hear from six different theatres/theatre artists. For the first event, on Monday, October 3, from 7PM to 8PM, the guest speaker is Studio 180 Theatre’s very own Artistic Director Joel Greenberg, director of The Normal Heart.
Studio 180 is pleased to have once again been selected as a third party recommender for the Ontario Arts Council’s (OAC’s) Theatre Creators’ Reserve program. We invite submissions from playwrights and collectives developing work that engages audiences and invites them to become part of an ongoing dialogue about issues and ideas of social relevance.
DEADLINE: DECEMBER 1, 2011.
We couldn’t wait for the summer heat wave to pass to tell you that single tickets for The Normal Heart are now on sale. Our first performance of the 2011/12 Season is a few months away, but it’s not too early to save. Purchase your tickets now to take advantage of our EARLY BIRD discount.
Studio 180 is pleased to announce that we’ve added our name to the growing list of Canadian theatres banding together to support the SummerWorks Theatre Festival in the face of a recent massive cut to the organization’s funding. We’re fully aware of the Festival’s invaluable role in developing new work given our own experience with Paul Dunn’s Offensive Shadows, which had its world premiere at SummerWorks in 2007 and went on to a full production at the Tarragon Theatre in 2008, and we’re delighted that so many theatres around the country are coming together to offer their support.
