January 2010 NewsletterStudio 180 is pleased to announce our recommendations for the Ontario Arts Council’s Theatre Creators’ Reserve program, which assists artists or collectives as they develop new work. We were overwhelmed and delighted by the sheer volume of submissions and, with $4,000 dollars at our disposal and requests for over $115,000 in support, the decision making process was very difficult for all involved.
Studio 180’s productions often invite opportunities for important partnerships, including our newfound connection – through mutual supporter BMO Financial Group – to Dignitas International, a vital humanitarian organization committed to providing health care for developing communities. On Wednesday, February 24, 2010, BMO will generously host a fundraising gala in shared support of Studio 180 and Dignitas.
Deadline: DECEMBER 1, 2009. Studio 180 is pleased to have been selected as a third party recommender for the Ontario Arts Council’s Theatre Creators’ Reserve program and invites submissions from playwrights and collectives developing work that engages audiences and invites them to become part of an ongoing dialogue about issues and ideas of social relevance. Submissions may range from new, unexplored ideas to scripts further along in the development process, but in each case the funding priority will be to “buy time” for writers and artists to pursue, hone and explore projects that function as more than mere entertainments. Our focus is to support proposals that reinforce Studio 180’s commitment to produce socially relevant theatre that provokes public discourse and promotes community engagement.
